Paid measurement and mitigation are regulated activities.
Florida Statutes § 404.056 covers radon sample collection, analysis, interpretation and mitigation. Before providing those services, a certified individual must own, work for or be retained by a certified radon measurement or mitigation business. The statute includes a limited exemption for an uncertified commercial business that subcontracts measurement to a certified radon business and passes the complete report to the client.

Ask for the business certificate number
Confirm whether the scope is measurement, mitigation or both.

Ask who will perform or supervise the work
Get the individual’s name and certificate number, not only a company name.

Check both current state lists
Florida publishes separate business and individual lists. Review the expiration information.

Confirm questionable status with the program
The Florida Radon Program lists 850-245-4288 and 800-543-8279 for certification questions.
Written scope
Certification does not replace a complete proposal.
Confirm the test protocol or system design, people responsible, reporting, code and permit responsibilities, post-mitigation test, operating documents, warranty and price in writing. Ask whether any part will be subcontracted and how that provider’s certification will be verified.
